  • 1.  /var out of space on AWS OnDemand SecureSphere MX

    Posted 11-13-2019 08:28

    We run SecureSphere MX from the AWS Marketplace and the AMI builds with an 80GB drive.
    We are getting multiple errors;
    File system partition on MX is out of space
    Partition /var on MX is out of

    How do you clear space on the MX?

    The amount of space available for an WAS deployed appliance is directly related to the AWS instance type you choose
    We have a xref of supported platforms

    here is a link that I am referring to -https://docs.imperva.com/bundle/v13.5-waf-on-amazon-aws-byol-installation-guide/page/10452.htm

    As far as your current situation check the /var/tmp and /tmp directories
    if you have any .tmp, export, or misc, files you can delete

    If you are having trouble you will probably need to open a case.
    The long term solution is to deploy on a larger instance

    @phil Klassen (csp) - Imperva

    Thanks for the info. We're on a bit of a change freeze at the moment so I've not had a change to try this yet.

    Hi Phil,

    I just tried upping the instance size from our current c3.xlarge to c3.2xlarge and building a brand new stack, the root volume is still 80GB and is no larger than we have already.

    I see that a C3,2xlarge comes with 20 80G SSD's
    our instance must be installed on a single disk so I would expect 80G to be what is available

    If tghis is not sufficient you may need to go to C4 platform which comes with Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) storage

    Hi Phil,

    Thanks for your reply but I'm a bit confused now.
    I can see that the c3.2xlarge comes with 2x 80GB of ephemeral storage but using that logic would mean that the c3.xlarge that we currently use, which comes with 2x 40GB, would have only 40GB of storage but when created it has an 80GB EBS volume, which I assume is based on the size of the Imperva marketplace ami.
