  • 1.  Installing the Agents

    Posted 01-07-2024 14:58

    Dears,

We need to deploy multiple Agents for different DBs.

Any advice on how to determine the best Agent, and steps to install the Agent and ensure the installation is working fine?

We think of agents for database servers as which operating system they run on.

So, the first step is determining the OS for a physical or virtual database server, as opposed to a DBaaS.  Primarily, that is Linux or Windows, but there are also z/OS mainframe agents and AIX agents running on an AS/400, etc...

A great resource for determining where to start is our Data Security Coverage Tool (https://www.imperva.com/data-security-coverage-tool/).  If you know you want to use an agent, jump down the operating system section and start there.  If the DB is running on a version of Linux, you'll probably want to follow this documentation guide from our Docs Portal: "Agents - Which Agent version to install on the Database?"

As far as automation to deploy multiple agents, that heavily depends upon your environment and needs.  However, you'll find multiple Terraform scripts for (agent and agentless) cloud deployments at Imperva's Github site, as well as other automation scripts for Chef and Ansible there, and command-line scripts and silent install parameters you can find on our Docs Portal.

Regarding monitoring agents, the first thing I usually do after verifying that the agent is registered is to look for audit data from that server/DB being monitored with the agent.  In a broader sense, you may want to review this article on Agent and GW performance and this article on the separate agent installation tasks.

I hope that's helpful, and please don't hesitate to reach out here, or to your local Imperva Presales team.

    Thanks,

    Hi Omar,

    This is straightforward.

First, Please check the compatibility of an agent with our Data Security Coverage Tool (https://www.imperva.com/data-security-coverage-tool/)

Secondly, follow this documentation guide from our "Agents - Which Agent version to install on the Database?"  for DB which is running on a version of MX.

    Hope this helps.

    Best,

    Vihar
