    Hi Team,

Have you encountered the same issue with Imperva DAM VM using VMWare Workstation? I'm trying to update the version form v14.7.1.10_0 to v14.7.1.31_0 but encountered the issue below.

"Fri Oct 7 09:57:58 CEST 2022 - securesphere_patch: Starting Patch Pre Checks UpdateInfo failed: VMware Guest API is not enabled on the host
Fri Oct 7 09:57:59 CEST 2022 - securesphere_patch: ERROR: VMWare Ballooning was detected. To prevent potential ballooning issues, installation was cancelled. Please resolve according to the "Balloon State" section in the "SecureSphere- ---- Patch installation Failed - for more details: - /var/log/securesphere_patch.log ----"

Tried several times but still the same issue. I also checked the logs and found this.

    "S[root@V147110_DAM_OneBox ~]# cat /var/log/securesphere_patch.log
    Sat Oct 8 13:24:43 CEST 2022 - securesphere_patch: ####################################################

Please resolve according to the "Balloon State" section in the "SecureSphere-Virtual-Appliance-Configuration-Guide" and run the installation again.

Been trying to find on how to enable the VMWare API and/or disabling the Balloon features, but there still no luck.

    Upgrade error

    Hello Oliver,

Thank you for the post, If adequate memory has not been properly reserved in advance, it may happen that ESX will not honor a SecureSphere Virtual machine request for additional memory. If this occurs, the virtual machine performance will be degraded.

In order to get around the ballooning you will need to increase the memory reservation on your appliance,

Here is a page from the VMWare installation guide on that topic: https://docs.imperva.com/bundle/v13.6-vmware-installation-guide/page/57611.htm

And also reserve the memory on the VM, below is the reference link,
    https://docs.imperva.com/howto/b7c9c3de

Please do follow the above two mentioned steps and again try to install the patch upgrade. If you still face any issues, please do check the logs from /var/log/securesphere_patch.logf for the errors.

    Hope this answers your query.

    Hi @Syed Noor Fazal,

    Thank you for the response.

Already upgraded the memory from initial 8GB to 12GB, but still the same issue. Please see screenshot. Also, this is a VMWare Workstation, I don't know if there any prerequisite needed for this setup.

    Hello Oliver,

Thank you for the screen shot, as per the shared screen shot you have allocated 12gb of memory for this virtual machine but you also need to reserve memory for this VM as mentioned in the bellow article,
    https://docs.imperva.com/howto/b7c9c3de

Like for my vm i have an option to reserve the memory after the memory allocation,

Please do reserve the memory and then re-try to upgrade the device.
