Normally you would not need to remove an old license to upload a new one, even if you're switching from Perpetual to Subscription based licensing. See the link below for instructions on applying a new license. If the MX refuses to accept the new license or says there's a conflict with the perpetual license, there is a procedure you can follow to wipe all licenses from the MX and start fresh. You'll want to open a support case if you need to do that, they will send you the correct procedure for your version of the MX.
